AI Agents Are Coming for Your Website — Is Your Business Ready for the Agent Economy?

This week, a startup called Natural raised $30 million to build payment infrastructure specifically for AI agents. Not for humans — for AI agents that browse, compare, purchase, and transact on behalf of their users.

If that sounds like science fiction, it’s not. It’s already happening, and it changes how service businesses should think about their websites.

The Agent Economy Is Real — and It’s Growing Fast

AI agents are no longer a demo. Companies like Natural, Adept, and Cognition are building infrastructure for a world where autonomous agents research services, compare providers, schedule appointments, and complete transactions — all without a human clicking through the process.

By 2027, Gartner predicts 60% of organizations will use AI agents for at least one business function. For service providers — consultants, agencies, clinics, law firms — that means a growing share of your website traffic will come from AI agents evaluating you on behalf of a human decision-maker.

The question is: does your website serve an AI agent as well as it serves a human visitor? Most don’t.

What AI Agents Look for on Your Site

An AI agent visiting your website behaves differently than a human. It doesn’t “read” your beautiful hero section. It looks for structured, machine-readable information:

  • Clear service descriptions. What exactly do you offer? Agents extract this from semantic HTML, headings, and structured data. If your services are buried in image sliders or vague copy, the agent moves on.
  • Transparent pricing. Agents compare options. If your pricing requires a “call for quote,” you’ll be excluded from the comparison set. Publishing real or range pricing keeps you in the running.
  • Schema markup. Structured data (LocalBusiness, Service, FAQ schema) tells agents exactly what you do, who you serve, and where. Without it, your site is invisible to agent crawlers.
  • APIs and booking endpoints. An agent that finds your services should be able to book a consultation or request a quote through a predictable API. If your contact form requires JavaScript and a human to parse the submission, the agent will skip it.
  • Social proof with context. Agents analyze reviews, testimonials, and case studies. But they need structured context: industry, project size, results. Unstructured praise is noise to an agent.

The $30M Signal

Natural’s raise is not an isolated event. It’s a signal that venture capital is betting on an agent-mediated economy. When payment infrastructure exists for agents, the commercial pipeline — discovery, evaluation, selection, purchase — becomes automated. Service providers who aren’t discoverable and transactable by agents will be invisible to an entire channel that their competitors will capture.

How to Prepare Your Website for AI Agents

  1. Add structured data today. LocalBusiness, Service, FAQ, and Review schema markups are free, take one afternoon to implement, and make your site readable by agents. Start with Google’s Rich Results Test.
  2. Publish clear service and pricing pages. If an agent can’t figure out what you do and what it costs, you lose the comparison. List services with flat fees, ranges, or starting prices.
  3. Make booking API-accessible. Calendar tools like Calendly have APIs. Connect your booking flow to something an agent can POST to — not just a form a human fills out.
  4. Speed matters more than ever. Agents have crawl budgets and time limits. If your site takes 6 seconds to load, the agent won’t wait. Fast sites get indexed and evaluated; slow ones get skipped.
  5. Test with agent tools. Run your site through tools like Browserbase or an AI crawler. What does an agent see? If the answer is “not much,” you have work to do.

The Opportunity

The agent economy isn’t a distant future — it’s being built right now. The same way mobile optimization separated forward-looking businesses from laggards a decade ago, agent readiness will separate the next wave of winners from those left behind.

The service businesses that prepare their websites for both humans and agents will capture traffic their competitors don’t even know exists — starting with the first structured data tag they add today.
